I promise. I will, really. I have some blogging ideas for the new year, but I’ll just keep them to myself until I get everything worked out. Ok, enough of that…

So, when I go on vacation, I always have an exciting time picking out what books to take with me. When I flew to Arkansas in December, I knew I had to find the right book for the flight and then what time I would have for reading while at my parents’ house. I felt like I needed something sturdy…something that would carry me through the holidays. None of the newest releases were calling to me, but as I was browsing the shelf at Borders, I noticed these fabulous covers on the old classics. The covers are done by Ruben Toledo and well, they’re just really awesome. So I purchased Pride and Prejudice and was set.

The last time I read Austen’s novel was in 7th grade. I did read Persuasion with my book club a couple of years ago and loved it. For me, the longer I can sit down and read these types of books the more I enjoy them. I don’t find reading one chapter or a bit of a chapter at a time enough to sustain my reading of them. So I finished it and decided to venture somewhere I’ve never gone before…the continuations of the novel. I suppose part of my interest in reading more was due to the oh so lovely, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Totally not a book I would read…but, I have it checked out from the library. I’ve started The Darcys and the Bingleys: A Tale of Two Gentlemen’s Marriages to Two Most Devoted Sisters by Marsha Altman. So far, so good.

I have a number of others on hold at the moment and I’m also watching the various movies. The first movie that came in is aptly named Pride and Prejudice, but it’s some kind of funky, modern day adaptation and I’m not holding my breath on this one.

I added some Austen related websites to the book links, if you’re interested. And some miscellany:  read an article on Austen Mania, find out if you’re a Janeite, and buy some Austen goods.

I have some nifty craft projects in the works and will happily share them in a timely manner. And I have some yummy recipes coming up, so stay tuned. Happy New Year, all!
