Today I got a library card! A very exciting experience that I have been eagerly awaiting. IMCPL issues your card to you at the time you submit an application, so you have to have proof of your address. Since I haven’t gotten an Indiana driver’s license, I was able to take in a piece of mail to prove my residency. I used the closest branch(Southport) to my house, which is about 15 minutes away. However, I think I may shop around at the other close branches. The new fiction section seemed to consist mostly of paperbacks!?!  (Though I did find one gem…see below.) They have self-checkout, which is neat. Rather than putting in a date due card with a specific date, you just insert a blank card. Once you’re finished checking everything out, you get a receipt with the due dates (kind of like Blockbuster). This would definitely help cut down on card sorting time! Checkout is 21 days for all items except DVDs which are for 3 days. Overdue charges for books, books on CD, and magazines are .25 a day (not to exceed $10). DVD and VHS late charges are $2 a day!

Now for my selections…

craftyMust always check out knitting/crafty books.

cookbookAnd a cookbook. I would like to be able to make Indian food at home. I have successfully made tandoori chicken in the past, so we’ll see.

manifestoI’m a sucker for books about living a simpler life.

2666And my most exciting find –  2666 by Roberto Bolano. I wanted to read this one when it came out, but at 898 pages I didn’t think I could handle it. Who knows if I can now? But I’m going to give it a try. The author died just before the book was published and intended for it to be published as 5 separate books. However the publisher decided otherwise, so it is one massive tome. I guess I best get to it!
